Mr. Simon Mahonasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he is aware of the short-term and long-term ill effects imposed on the children of Belfast, Deny and other parts of Northern Ireland by the trouble therein since 1969; if he will set up an inquiry into methods by which such children so affected may be preserved from such anxieties, and ill effects, and appropriate treatment given where necessary; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. David HowellIt is already apparent that in parts of Northern Ireland the mental health of some children has suffered as a result of the violence there. A close watch for symptoms of mental stresses amongst children is being maintained, and treatment provided where necessary. Every effort is being made to restore peace and stability to the area.
