HC Deb 06 July 1972 vol 840 c188W
31. Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many internees have been released since the imposition of direct rule.

35. Dr. Miller

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what progress he has made towards the phasing-out of internment without trial.

Mr. David Howell

My right hon. Friend is personally reviewing the case of every internee, but the speed with which internment can be brought to an end depends upon the security situation.

Since 29th March, 1972, 446 persons have been released from internment; in addition, 11 internees have been released on the recommendations of the Advisory Committee. The number of persons still interned is 282.
