asked the Secretary of State for Employment how Earning Survey for the Solent sub-region, the South-East Region and Great Britain are given below. Estimates of average earnings in particular job categories in Portsmouth and other provincial centers are not available.

Following is the information

many men and women on 20th July were unemployed for less than three months, were students on summer vocation being between the ages of 18 to 24 years, were over 55 years of age and in receipt of a pension from their erstwhile employer, and were waiting for retraining in a new skill, respectively.

The quarterly analysis by duration of unemployment at 10th April, 1972, the latest date for which the required information is available, showed that 309,445 men and 71,131 women had been unemployed for less than 13 weeks. On 10th July, 1972, there were 20,397 men and 8,213 women students registered for temporary vacation employment. No analysis by age has been undertaken, but most will be within the ages mentioned. Information on unemployed persons over 55 years of age and in receipt of a pension from their former employers and those awaiting retraining in a new skill is not available.
