asked the Prime Minister whether he will make a statement on his recent discussions with representatives of the Trades Union Council and the Confederation of British Industry.

I was glad to have the opportunity of discussing the economic situation with the C.B.I. and the T.U.C. and look forward to a continuing exchange of views. At both meetings I stressed the need to reduce the current level of cost inflation.
