§ 60. Mr. Mayhewasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action he is taking to ensure the adequate provision by local authorities of community services for the mentally disordered.
§ Sir K. JosephAs announced in the House on 11th November, the Government are planning to make available over the next four years an extra £40 million for improved hospital and local authority services for the mentally ill and another extra £40 million for similar improvements for the mentally handicapped.
I have recently addressed special meetings of the County Councils Association and the Association of Municipal Corporations at which I have drawn special attention to the need to develop community services for the mentally disordered.—[Vol. 806, c. 391–8.]
