HC Deb 16 March 1971 vol 813 cc274-5W
63. Mr. Denis Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will take steps to ensure that part-time consultants do not serve as members of regional boards and hospital management committees.

Sir K. Joseph

I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Nuneaton (Mr. Leslie Huckfield) on 5th March, 1971.—[Vol. 812, c.547.]

64. Mr. Denis Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will consider requiring part-time consultants in the National Health Service to make returns to their employing body stating the numbers of private patients they have treated in Health Service facilities; the use and occupancy of pay beds by their private patients; and the amount of fees earned by them when using such beds and facilities for the treatment of private patients.

Sir K. Joseph

No. Hospital authorities already record the number of private patients treated and bed use by private patients. Fees charged by the consultant to his private patient are a private transaction and are not the concern of the hospital authority.
