HC Deb 05 August 1971 vol 822 c472W
Mr. Roderick

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many council tenants there are in Wales; and how many of these are in three bedroom, two bedroom, and one bedroom dwellings, respectively, in each of the classes, pre- 1939, 1945–64, and post 1964.

Mr. Peter Thomas

Of the approximate 250,000 local authority dwellings in Wales, about 53,000 were built before 1945 (almost all before 1939), 144,000 between 1945 and 1964 and 53,000 since 1964. At any given time a small proportion of these dwellings will be vacant between tenancies. Local authorities are not required to provide me with details of their tenancies. The available information on bedroom-types can be found in Part I of "Housing Statistics", published by the Institute of Municipal Treasurers and Accountants. The latest issue covers the financial year 1969–70 and a copy is available in the Library.
