HC Deb 05 August 1971 vol 822 cc471-2W
Mr. Roderick

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he will guarantee that under the new proposed arrangements for housing finance the Welsh percentage of the total Exchequer housing subsidies will not fall below its present level.

Mr. Peter Thomas

I cannot give any such guarantee although I have no reason to think that it will do so.

Mr. Roderick

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what was the total housing subsidy paid from the rates by Welsh local authorities in 1970–71.

Mr. Peter Thomas

Approximately £2.3 million.

Mr. Roderick

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what was the total Exchequer housing subsidy to Welsh local authorities in 1970–71; and what percentage that was of the England and Wales totals.

Mr. Peter Thomas

The estimated total payment of Exchequer housing subsidy to Welsh local authorities, new town corporations and housing associations in 1970–71 was £8.1 million. This represents approximately 5.2 per cent. of the corresponding total for England and Wales.
