Dr. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what steps he has taken to encourage the tourist boards to concern themselves with the problem of clean beaches on the sea coast of the United Kingdom and the need for more effective sewage treatment in such coastal areas.

These are matters in the first instance for local authorities, but, in view of their importance to amenities, I have no doubt that the tourist boards will take an active interest in them.
