§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry why, with his Department's letter of 30th July 312W sent to the hon. Member for West Ham, North, dealing with charges and allegations of corruption upon the part of his officials, he sent back a letter dated 9th July from Mr. A. G. Hughes regarding alleged malpractices on the part of eight public companies without any answer to the charges; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RidleyThe hon. Member is mistaken; the Department's letter to him of 30th July was not concerned with Mr. A. G. Hughes' letter of 9th July, and did not enclose that letter; it refuted the allegations contained in earlier correspondence from the hon. Member. A separate letter was sent in reply to Mr. Hughes on 30th July, and not to the hon. Member.
