HC Deb 21 April 1971 vol 815 cc392-3W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the estimated average income of persons living in private accommodation in England and Wales at the latest available date.

Mr. Amery

The estimated average income of households in privately rented unfurnished accommodation in England and Wales in 1968 was £1,250. This estimate is derived from the Family Expenditure Survey, and is subject to sampling errors.

Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of the number of persons living in private accommodation who will get housing subsidies in the first full year of operation of the Government's proposals for the reform of housing finance in England and Wales; and to what sum these subsidies will amount.

Mr. Channon

I regret that I am unable at present to add to my answer to the hon. Member for Islington, South-West (Mr. George Cunningham) on 31st March.—[Vol. 814, c. 1483–4.]
