§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Lord President of the Council whether he will give a detailed list of the paid and expenses-paid appointments, full or part-time, which are barred to Members of Parliament under the ban of holding offices of profit and those paid appointments which Members can hold where moneys from the Treasury are involved; which Members of Parliament hold such appointments; and at what stated fees and expenses.
§ Mr. WhitelawI would refer the hon. Member to the House of Commons Disqualification Act, 1957, which lists those offices and appointments which are statutorily barred to Members of Parliament.
§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Lord President of the Council why information is not available of the names of Members of Parliament, other than Ministers, who have been appointed to positions where fees, salaries or expenses are paid, together with the amount of fees, salaries and expenses drawn by such Members for any given period of time; and whether he will, in future, take action to ensure that such information is collated and made available.
§ Mr. WhitelawThe information requested by the hon. Member would be available only in a Register of Members' financial interests. The Select Committee on Members' Interests (Declaration) rejected a proposal for such a register, and I endorse the view of the Committee on this point.
