HC Deb 29 October 1970 vol 805 c158W
43. Mr. Goodhart

asked the Minister of State for Defence what plans he has made to see that an undue proportion of the burden of internal security duties in Northern Ireland does not fall on infantry regiments.

Mr. Ian Gilmour

Internal security duties are normally most appropriately performed by the infantry. In the difficult circumstances created by the emergency in Northern Ireland, units of other arms and of the other two Services have also performed these duties and will continue to do so.
