HC Deb 29 October 1970 vol 805 c158W
42. Mr. Goodhart

asked the Minister of State for Defence whether he will ensure that no Service man is paid less, through withdrawal of separation allowance or any other allowance, as a result of being posted to Northern Ireland on an emergency tour for internal security purposes.

Mr. Ian Gilmour

A Service man's rate of basic pay remains the same wherever he is posted, but certain forms of additional pay and certain allowances may vary according to the job he has to do and the location in which he has to do it. Hitherto it has not been the practice to pay separation allowance in respect of separated service within the United Kingdom. However, these rules are now being reviewed.
