HC Deb 27 October 1970 vol 805 c47W
Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the total amount of financial help that has been given to local authorities under the urban aid programme.

Mr. Sharples

Approvals carrying a 75 per cent. Exchequer grant both towards loan charges etc. and towards initial running costs have so far been given to capital projects costing about £7½ million in England and Wales. Approvals carrying a similar grant have also been given to about £700,000 worth of non-capital projects, including some in which the local authorities concerned give assistance to voluntary organisations.

Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the number of local authorities to whom urban aid grants have been given.

Mr. Sharples

So far, 91 in England and Wales.
