HC Deb 27 October 1970 vol 805 cc46-7W
Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what methods of publicity he proposes to use to inform parents of the need for proper supervision in the handling of fireworks in the period up to and until Guy Fawkes Day.

Mr. Sharples

My right hon. Friend is arranging for advice to be given to parents and children by means of T.V. filler films, announcements on the radio and statements in the Press, on how to handle fireworks in accordance with a safety code which has been drawn up jointly by the firework manufacturers, the Home Office, and a number of safety organisations. The manufacturers and the safety organisations are also distributing posters, and leaflets will be available for retailers to hand to purchasers.
