HC Deb 23 November 1970 vol 807 cc46-7W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is aware of the growth of private employment agencies; what evidence has been supplied to him on the activities of such agencies; and if he will institute an inquiry into the matter with a view to legislation.

Mr. Dudley Smith

The latest authoritative information is given in Report No. 89 of the National Board for Prices and Incomes, published in November, 1968, which noted that there had been a steady increase in the number of agency branches in the G.L.C. area in recent years and in the number of firms. My right hon. Friend has received no formal evidence on this subject and he is not contemplating an inquiry or legislation.
