HC Deb 23 November 1970 vol 807 c47W
Miss Quennell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many staff agencies were licensed in 1969 compared with the figures for 1968 and 1967; and what information must be supplied by such bodies in their applications.

Mr. Dudley Smith

There is no general legal requirement for employment agencies to be licensed, but some local authorities make it a requirement under local Acts. A special inquiry in 1968 showed that nearly 3,000 agencies were licensed by local authorities.

Information for 1967 and 1969 and on the application procedures adopted by the different authorities concerned is not readily available.
