HC Deb 16 November 1970 vol 806 cc326-7W
Mr. Eadie

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what effect the recent increase in oil prices will have in the cost per unit of electricity generation at power stations; and what the increase price represents per ton of coal equivalent.

Mr. Ridley

The increase of 1d. a gallon announced at the beginning of November would be equivalent to about 11s.-12s. a ton of coal. The effect on the cost of electricity generation cannot be stated because the oil generating boards buy under long-term contracts to which the recent increase in schedule prices does not necessarily apply.
