HC Deb 04 November 1970 vol 805 c389W
118. Mr. David Stoddart

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is satisfied that emergency exits in public buildings in Great Britain are kept unlocked to ensure free egress during all periods when in use by the public; and if he will write to all local authorities drawing their attention to the need to enforce the regulations regarding emergency exits at all times.

Mr. Maudling

I have no reason to think that the local authorities, which are responsible, need reminding of the dangers involved. Proposals for rationalising and strengthening the law are included in the Fire Precautions Bill to be introduced today.
