asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take action to increase the number of hostel places for prisoners after discharge.

Mr. Carlisle

The Home Office After-Care Hostels Grant Scheme enables grants to be paid to voluntary organizations which provide such accommodation. With this help I expect the number of hostel places to increase by about 200 each year.
