HC Deb 02 November 1970 vol 805 cc246-7W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will now take steps to encourage the public industries of coal, gas and electricity to develop productive and distributive services to meet their own need and to share in the competitive market at home and abroad; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will now take steps to allow the National Coal Board to manufacture the machinery and equipment it needs by removing restrictions.

Sir J. Eden

No; I would not be prepared to sanction any extension of the Boards' peripheral activities without a very critical examination of the case for doing so.
