HC Deb 29 May 1970 vol 801 c606W
Mr. Channon

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what was the change in the real gross national product of Rhodesia between 1965 and 1969.

Mr. M. Stewart:

Southern Rhodesia's gross national product at factor cost increased from £R339.5 million in 1965 to £R395 million in 1969, in terms of constant prices. The real increase in the gross national product in that period was therefore £R55.5 million.

The gross domestic product increased from £R354 million in 1965 to £R406 million in 1969, in terms of constant prices. The real increase in the gross domestic product during that period was therefore £R52 million.

If, however, increases in population are also taken into account the increase in gross national product in real terms per head of population amounted to only about 2 per cent. over the whole of the period 1965–1969.
