HC Deb 28 May 1970 vol 801 c529W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why Mr. Will Owen, who had heart trouble and Glaucoma, was not medically examined at regular intervals by prison doctors so that his trial might be postponed, as is the custom of the prison administration in such cases.

Mr. Elystan Morgan:

Mr. Owen was kept under observation in the hospital at Brixton prison while he was on remand and awaiting trial. He was medically examined before the trial began by the principal medical officer at Brixton and by a consultant physician, and the principal medical officer reported to the court that in his opinion Mr. Owen was fit to stand trial.
