asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will make a statement defining the neighbourhood surrounding Hollesley Bay Colony Borstal within which be is prepared to pay compensation to private residents as a matter of grace for damage to property.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will make a statement, setting out the circumstances under which the Home Office accepts liability for loss or damage by persons unlawfully at large from Hollesley Bay Colony Borstal and similar institutions, in view of the cases Greenwell versus the Prison Commissioners, the Home Office versus Dorset Yacht Company Limited, and the Privy Council appeal decision in the matter of Kodeeswaran versus the Attorney-General of Ceylon.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many absconders there have been from Hollesley Bay Borstal in each of the past four years; how many private motor vehicles have been damaged or stolen by absconders in each period; and in how many such cases has compensation been paid.
