HC Deb 11 May 1970 vol 801 c225W
85. Mr. Alan Lee Williams

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what progress he is making in his talks with the Argentine Government about the promotion of free communications with the Falkland Islands.

Mr. M. Stewart:

Since the reply given on 23rd February by my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary to a Question by the hon. Member for Edinburgh, South (Mr. Clark Hutchison), exchanges have continued between representatives of my Department and the Argentine Government. The Falkland Islands Government have been kept fully informed throughout. It has been possible in these exchanges to identify some ways in which free communications and movement in both directions might be promoted, and both sides believe that these deserve detailed study. I expect the talks to proceed on a continuing basis. Meetings will be held from time to time with appropriate participation from the Falkland Islands.—[Vol. 796, c. 229.]
