HC Deb 06 May 1970 vol 801 c128W
Mrs. Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what sums have been spent on medical research in Scotland in each of the last 10 years broken down into headings of subjects of research.

Mr. Ross:

The table below shows expenditure in Scotland on medical research within the National Health Service and by the Medical Research Council. It is not possible to break these totals down by subject of research. The table takes no account of the considerable sums made available to the Scottish universities by the University Grants Committee for the research element of their activities.

and in the three preceding periods £27 million, £3 million and £1 million respectively.
