HC Deb 04 May 1970 vol 801 c5W
45. Mr. Bryant Godman Irvine

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the Fiji Constitutional Conference.

Mr. M. Stewart:

The Conference is still in session. At its conclusion I hope to present a Command Paper setting out its decisions. One very satisfactory development, which has already been made public, is that the Government party and Opposition have agreed on the composition of the legislature in the Independence Constitution. The Lower House will have a greater proportion of members elected by voters of all communities than the present Legislative Council.
