HC Deb 04 May 1970 vol 801 cc4-5W
32 and 33. Dr. Miller

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) if he is satisfied with the proposals to safeguard the integrity of British Honduras after that country obtains independence; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if the Guatemalan Government has agreed to recognise the sovereignty of British Honduras after that country obtains independence.

Mr. M. Stewart:

The question of safeguarding the integrity of British Honduras after independence is one of the matters which will no doubt be discussed at a conference about independence, when this is held. In these circumstances it is premature to talk about proposals.

Since no date has yet been fixed for independence the question of recognition of the country's sovereignty after independence does not at present arise.
