Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what proportion of firms in England and Scotland, respectively, do not comply with their statutory responsibilities concerning the employment of registered disabled persons; and to what extent the position has changed in the last five years.

Mr. Dell

The percentage of firms with 20 or more employees which failed to employ the required quota of registered disabled persons on 31st May, 1969, the date of the latest count, was in England 55.8 per cent., and in Scotland 57 per cent. The comparable percentages in 1965 were for England 47.3, and for Scotland 46.5.
