§ Mrs. Ewingasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what specific advertising he has instituted in the Press and on television in connection with the Special Recruitment Scheme to attract potential teachers out of industry; what is the total cost of the advertising broken down between Press and television; and which are the newspapers or journals involved.
§ Mr. RossDuring the period December, 1969 to April, 1970 just under £5,000 will be spent by my Department on advertisements in the press aimed at the recruitment of teachers. In advertisements accounting for over half of this total expenditure the Special Recruitment Scheme is specifically mentioned and188W way and dual carriageway schemes are in preparation, and others will be added as resources permit.
It is too early to estimate mileage under construction in the mid 1970s. The other information requested is as follows:
wherever appropriate information about the scheme is sent in reply to letters of inquiry arising out of the whole campaign. I am sending the hon. Lady a list of the newspapers and periodicals in which advertisements have been placed. £2,000 has been spent on making two short films which are currently being shown on television. One of these films is specifically about the Special Recruitment Scheme, and the other draws attention to it.
