HC Deb 19 March 1970 vol 798 c188W
Mrs. Ewing

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what new proposals he has to foster the Gaelic language and culture in the current year.

Mr. Ross

Twelve books have already been published under the Gaelic Books Grant Scheme and others will be published shortly. This year for the first time the Scottish Certificate of Education Examination Board is including Gaelic among the subjects for the Certificate of Sixth Year Studies. The Education Authorities' Joint Committee for Gaelic Text Books, which has already sponsored the production of books for use in primary schools, has several secondary school books in course of preparation.
