HC Deb 06 March 1970 vol 797 cc188-9W
Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Minister of Transport (1) whether he will seek powers to remedy the inadequacies in provisions for overnight accommodation for lorry drivers following recent reductions in maximum hours of permitted driving time;

(2) what representations he has recently received from road haulage interests and trade unions concerned about the inadequacy of lorry drivers' overnight accommodation following maximum hours of driving reductions; what reply he has sent; and what steps he proposes to take.

Mr. Bob Brown

Existing legislation empowers local authorities to provide these facilities. We are, however, anxious about the whole question of the problems created by the overnight parking of lorries, and are consulting with local authority, industrial and union interest in an endeavour to determine how best to tackle this problem.

We have received no recent representations.
