HC Deb 02 March 1970 vol 797 c26W
78. Mr. Silvester

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many cinemas have been granted relief or exemption from the operation of the films quota in 1969 under each of the categories, shown separately, covered by Section 4 of the Films Act 1960.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

During 1969, the number of cinemas granted exemption from quota obligations in respect of the calendar year 1970 was 109. The total number of cinemas granted quota relief was 117. A breakdown of this figure into the categories set out in Section 4(1) of the Films Act, 1960 is not readily available, but I will write to the hon. Member giving him this information.

79. Mr. Silvester

asked the President of the Board of Trade what is his estimate of the number of cinemas which will qualify for relief or exemption from the films quota under each of the categories, shown separately, covered by Section 12(1) of the Films Bill.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

It is not possible to say how many cinemas will qualify for quota relief under category (c) in Clause 12(1) of the Films Bill, but the number is expected to be small. It is estimated that between 40 and 50 cinemas will qualify, in respect of the year 1971, for relief under category (d), of Clause 12(1) of the Films Bill and about 35 under category (e).
