HC Deb 29 January 1970 vol 794 cc380-1W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity why she has allowed increases in salaries to the higher paid company directors and those in receipt of large incomes, in view of her policy of stopping or delaying payments of increases to those in the lower income groups.

Mr. Harold Walker

The policy applies equally to all income-earners. As stated in paragraph 69 of the current White Paper on incomes Policy, the Government intends to ask the N.B.P.I. to initiate investigations in depth into those cases where low pay is a major problem. My right hon. Friend is in consultation with the C.B.I. and T.U.C. about a suitable selection of references.
