Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will obtain a report from the chief constable on the number of personal radios which were available to the police force in Cornwall in 1964 and the latest date for which figures are available.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

I am informed that there were no personal radio sets in use in Cornwall in 1964. At 31st December, 1969, 88 such sets were available to the members of the combined force stationed in Cornwall.

Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will obtain a report from the chief constable on the establishment and the strength of the police force in Newquay in 1964 and the latest year for which figures are available.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

The establishment and strength of the Newquay subdivision of the Cornwall police force in 1963 were each 26. The figures for 1964 are not readily available. At the end of 1969, the corresponding establishment was 35 and the strength, temporarily, 37.

Mr. Pardoe

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will obtain a report from the chief constable on the number of police dogs which were available to the Newquay police force in 1964 and the latest year for which figures are available.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

In 1964 there were no police dogs available for use in Newquay. The Devon and Cornwall Constabulary now has eighteen dogs, one of which is based in Newquay.
