HC Deb 26 February 1970 vol 796 c395W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will give for the most recent convenient period details of the sentences passed on, respectively, self-confessed criminals and murderers and policemen without previous convictions.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

Since 9th November, 1965, all convicted murderers aged 18 and above have been subject to the mandatory sentence of imprisonment for life. The criminal statistics for England and Wales do not differentiate sentences imposed on "self-confessed criminals"; nor do they in general distinguish convicted persons by reference to occupation.
