HC Deb 09 February 1970 vol 795 c279W
Mr. Eadie

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what advantage in money terms has accrued to a household, comprising a man, wife and two children, as a result of the annual farm price review during the last five years, on the assumption that they spent a total of £7 per week on indigenous farm produce.

Mr. Mackie

It is impossible to give a precise answer because of the number of variables involved. But without the contribution that British farmers make to the nation's food supply, the price we should have to pay for food on the world markets, and so the cost of the household food budget, would undoubtedly be a good deal higher than it is now.
