HC Deb 22 April 1970 vol 800 cc105-6W
Mr. Monro

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied that the increase in the price of lamb in the Price Review will halt the rundown of hill farms in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ross:

The further increase of 3d. per 1b. in the lamb guarantee and the higher rates of grant under the Hill Land Improvement Scheme and the Lime Scheme are designed to encourage greater productivity and growth in the hills and uplands and to reverse the decline in lowland sheep.
