HC Deb 15 April 1970 vol 799 cc233-4W
12. Sir J. Langford-Holt

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is aware that the pesticide and antibiotic regulations in the United Kingdom increase costs to the United Kingdom food producers; and whether he will therefore stop food imports from countries where similar regulations do not impose the same burdens.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

No. It has never been Government policy to limit imports to those from countries whose production costs are in all ways similar to our own. As to antibiotics, I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for North Angus and Mearns (Mr. Buchanan-Smith) on 10th December last.—[Vol. 793, c. 407.]
