Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Transport if he will modernise, amend and supplement the steps he took under of the year 1968 ; and how many deaths resulted from them in each of those two periods;

(2) how many road accidents involving a heavy goods vehicle on the A62 between the Linthwaite-Huddersfield boundary and the Saddleworth-Lees boundary were reported during the year 1968 and the first six months of 1969 ; and how many deaths resulted from them in each of the two periods;

(3) how many road accidents involving a heavy goods vehicle on the A616 between the Huddersfield boundary at Honley and Jackson Bridge were reported during 1968 and during the first six months of 1969, respectively ; and how many deaths resulted from them in each of the two periods;

(4) how many road accidents involving a heavy goods vehicle on the A636 within the Urban District of Denby Dale were reported during 1968 and during the first six months of 1969, respectively ; and how many deaths resulted from them in each of the two periods.

The number of injury accidents and of deaths reported were as follows:

and since the Report of the Committee on the Problem of Noise, Command Paper No. 2056, and the Conference on the Reduction of Noise, Her Majesty's Stationery Office, 1907, so as to reduce the noise made by motor cars and motor cycles on roads in residential areas, with particular reference to his recent discussions with the motor industry and consequent plans for further progressive reductions of noise during the 1970s.
