HC Deb 04 November 1969 vol 790 cc84-5W
Mr. Judd

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will make a statement on the number of road accidents in urban areas caused by stray dogs.

Mr. Bob Brown

In the last five years, the police recorded in 0.6 per cent. of fatal and serious accidents that there was a dog in the carriageway at the time of the accident. It does not follow that the dog was the cause of the accident.

Following are the figures:

1964 533
1965 528
1966 470
1967 486
1968 467

These figures cannot readily be broken down to show accidents in urban and rural areas separately.
