HC Deb 04 March 1969 vol 779 c57W
31. Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what further steps he proposes to take to safeguard the £ sterling against world monetary instability; and what further estimate he has made of the effect of special drawing rights on the stability of the monetary system.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

A central aim of the Government's economic policy is to safeguard the United Kingdom economy against possible damage from external factors. I expect an increase in liquidity through the distribution of special drawing rights to contribute to general stability.
