HC Deb 24 June 1969 vol 785 c234W
54. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will exempt local housing authorities from the necessity of strengthening blocks of flats which are no higher than eight storeys and were industrially built in cases where no gas supply has been laid on.

Mr. MacColl

No. Last November my right hon. Friend passed on to local authorities the best available advice on the structural standards applicable to system built blocks over six storeys which the Inquiry Tribunal had recommended for particular attention. As the owners of these blocks the authorities have a responsibility towards their tenants from which it would be difficult for my right hon. Friend to relieve them.
