Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what was the total value of rate rebates granted to the borough of Eccles during the past year; how many claimants benefited; what was the rebate worth on average for each claimant; and what was the total value of rate relief granted by Her Majesty's Government for the same period.

Mr. Skeffington

In 1968–69 rebates amounting to £9,715 were afforded in the borough of Eccles. The number of recipients was 596 in the first half year and 685 in the second. The average amount of rebate for the year was £15 3s. The 75 per cent. Government grant towards the the cost of rebates amounted to £7,286.

In 1968–69 rebates amounting to £13,418 were afforded in the borough of Swinton and Pendlebury. The number of recipients was 847 in the first half year and 1,005 in the second. The average amount of rebate for the year was £14 10s. The 75 per cent. Government grant towards the cost of rebates amounted to £10,064.
