asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will give for the longest convenient period of time the number of persons found guilty of any civil or criminal misdemeanour where a suspended prison sentence has been awarded.

The suspended sentence provisions of the Criminal Justice Act, 1967 came into operation on 1st January, 1968. Between that date and 31st December last, suspended sentences of imprisonment were passed on 32,002 offenders.
