HC Deb 25 July 1969 vol 787 c528W
Mr. J. E. B. Hill

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the authorised establishment of the Police Drugs Squad in London; and what are the number of officers at present working in it, showing the number of each grade.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

The establishment of the specialist squad at New Scotland Yard is as follows:

  1. 1 Detective Chief Superintendent.
  2. 2 Detective Chief Inspectors.
  3. 1 Detective Inspector.
  4. 2 Detective Sergeants (1st Class).
  5. 8 Detective Sergeants (2nd Class).
  6. 6 Detective Constables.

All the posts are filled. Two of the officers of the squad are temporarily on other duties but one additional officer is primarily engaged on the work of the squad. The majority of drug offences are dealt with by officers in divisions, not by the squad at New Scotland Yard.

Mr. J. E. B. Hill

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on how many occasions he has, within the last six months, had discussions with the head of the Police Drugs Squad in London.

Mr. Elysian Morgan

Home Office officials are in frequent contact with drug squad officers at all levels.
