Information about the numbers of apprentices employed is not available, but recruitment of young people who take apprenticeships in hair-dressing and manicure as their first employment on leaving school has been running at about 1,200 a year during the last three years. In the academic year 1967–68, 121 boy and 1,113 girl apprentice hairdressers were attending day release courses.
