HC Deb 09 December 1969 vol 793 c112W
Mr. Stodart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has been informed of the views of the South-Eastern Regional Hospital Board of the conditions of the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, and of the importance which the board attaches to remedying these conditions; and what action he proposes to take so as to give effect to these views.

Mr. Ross

The South-Eastern Regional Hospital Board has expressed to me the concern of members at the poor conditions in certain areas of the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. It has made provision for substantial expenditure on upgrading accommodation in the old buildings from the £20 million which I have provisionally allocated to it for major hospital building projects in the region in the period after March, 1972, but has asked that this allocation should be increased. The major building programmes proposed by all regions for the post-1972 period are being considered and the South-Eastern Regional Hospital Board's views about the Western General Hospital are being taken into account.
