HC Deb 04 December 1969 vol 792 c340W
Mr. Eadie

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many unemployed miners there are in the County of Midlothian; what are their ages; and how many have been offered retraining facilities.

Mr. Dell

At 10th November, 1969 there were in Midlothian 282 males registered as unemployed who last worked in coal mining (Minimum List Heading 101 of the Standard Industrial Classification). Of these, six were under 18 years of age. There is no detailed age analysis of the unemployed register for separate industries. All suitable unemployed miners have been offered training facilities at Government training centres and four have applied for training.
